25 de Abril Preambulo

In April 1999, I was in Lisbon for the 25th anniversary of Portuguese democracy. On 25 de Abril, the anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, I attended the midnight festivities at Praca do Comercio on the Tagus River, along with 50,000 Portuguese. This photo is of the 1974 Preamble, overlaid with a red carnation, which we all wore on that memorable occasion.

At the Give-Away

At the give-away, we wandered in a daze, easing each others' pain with stories and reflections and the significance of mementos chosen from the residue of our friend's generous and expansive life.
